Frequently Asked Questions

What is Triple Rinsing:-

Pesticide containers are classified as hazardous if they are not triple rinsed and dry. Hazardous wastes are subject to significantly higher levels of legislation and therefore need to be processed in a different way. Subsequently it is imperative that containers are thoroughly rinsed and totally dry otherwise you will be charged for the increased disposal costs.

Do I need a waste carriers licence to deliver direct to site on a tractor and trailer?

No, as long as you are the producer of the waste. If you were to collect your neighbours waste, then you would require a waste carrier’s licence.

When is the legislation law?

The Legislation is Law from the 16th May 2006. For further information visit the DEFRA website.

Who do I contact for independent advice?

The best starting point is the DEFRA / Environment Agency jointly co-ordinated website www.wasterecyling.org.uk  this provides guidance directly applicable for agricultural wastes on a postcode by postcode basis.

As a waste producer – what are my responsibilities?

You are obliged to dispose of your waste in a responsible manner using a registered waste management / recycling company. It is your responsibility to ensure that they are registered to carry the waste, and that the transfer note details where the waste is going. Your responsibility also includes the end destination, ensuring that they are also licensed by the Environment Agency.

How do we store the waste on farm?

This will depend upon the type of farming operation and the type of waste. For example pesticide containers must be stored in a dry area on concrete. They can then be stored loose, in bags (fertiliser bags etc), in an old farm trailer or any other form of temporary structure. Crop cover can be stored at the edge of the field and loaded directly into a vehicle or collected from the main yard. Each business will have a different approach but the end goal is environmental responsibility and a practical system that works for you. We can provide bags however we believe that the majority of businesses will use their own resources.

Can I deliver direct to the Materials Recycling Facility?

Yes, we typically average 100 vehicle deliveries a day with an average turnaround time of 10 minutes. We can accept any form of vehicle including tractor and trailers. Deliveries direct to site will not be accepted if an account form has not been completed and authorised. Just telephone 0800 310 1815 and we will fax an application form immediately.

We are open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.00pm and on Saturday till midday. Please remember if you are not the producer you will need to show a copy of your waste carrier’s certificate and a full transfer note with a signed producer’s verification.

What about loading a collection vehicle on my farm?

The most efficient method is to use a telescopic handler using either the bucket or tines and load directly over the side – either loose or in bags. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call 0800 310 1815.

What happens if I have crop cover that has been stripped off a field and is ready to collect?

Crop cover by its very nature is extremely difficult to handle. The fewer times it is moved the easier it is to handle. The two preferred options are:-

A~ We will collect direct form the field providing you have a forklift that can load over the side. We can provide a wait and load service or we can leave a rolonoff bin that can be loaded at your leisure. Please note that front end loading tractors will not be able to load over the side of an artic – a rolonoff bin will be required.

B~ If you are unable to load in the field or you have a contract growing arrangement that means you do not have a loading vehicle that is practical then we can provide a collection vehicle with a grab function that allows us to load directly off the field. Please note that crop cover must not be placed near low hanging trees and electric wires. If the field is wet (more than likely), please place the reels as close to the entrance as possible.
