Plastics Recycling

Plastics Recycling

Mid-UK Recycling operate a Polypropylene (PP) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) recycling plant at our Barkston Heath site.

These plastics are strong, have a high resistance to heat and act as a barrier to moisture. As such, PP and HDPE are widely used in the consumer packaging industry.

Polypropylene has the number 5 as its resin identification code and the following are examples of PP items we can accept at our plastics recycling plant:

  • Yogurt pots
  • Butter and margarine tubs
  • Food packaging trays

Once the PP polymers have been identified and separated from any contamination they are washed and processed into a flake. The flakes are supplied to various industries where they are recycled into new materials such as toys, automobile products, carpets, packaging and furniture.

HDPE has the number 2 as its resin identification code and the following are examples of HDPE items we can accept at our plastics recycling plant:

  • Milk bottles
  • Shampoo and conditioner bottles
  • Detergent bottles

As with the PP, the HDPE is washed and processed into a flake. The flakes are supplied for recycling into new materials such as milk bottles, piping, toys, rope, garden furniture and bins.
